A Little Road Trip
Here is a picture of a train following the Arkansas River. The river is between the road and the tracks.

We then decided to check out the Royal Gorge Bridge. Here I am standing beside the South Dakota sign on the bridge.

Doug standing in the middle of the bridge. Just over Doug's shoulder you can see a red dot, that is the tram that we decided to skip.

These are the cables that hold the bridge up. I can't remember how many strands of number 9 wire there are in one cable, but a lot.

Doug wanted to prove to everyone that the planks on the bridge were wood. Most of the planks were close together, but a couple had like an inch to two inch gap, that is a weird feeling to look through them.

Here is a picture of what they called a railway and you can ride down to the bottom to the river, not.
They put you inside these cages and you ride down staying up.
There they go, down to the bottom and then they have to ride back up, seriously.
Somewhere between Scottsbluff, NE and Hot Springs, SD I fell asleep. After spending two nights in hard beds, I just couldn't take it anymore. We returned home Sunday afternoon after picking Hannah up in Rapid City. Oh, its nice to be home, but we had fun. Oh, by the way, we did buy a bull and he will be delivered in May some time.
Here you can see the Arkansas River below. The bridge is the highest suspended bridge in the world. It is 1053 ft above the river. It was built in 1929 as a tourist attraction. Its 1260 feet long and 18 feet wide.

When we were about the middle of the bridge a pickup and trailer crossed over and man did the bridge bounce then. I thought Doug was going to jump, but he didn't, thank you God. He was just a little boy,
On a week's first day.
Wandering home from Bible school,
And dawdling on the way.
He scuffed his shoes into the grass;
He even found a catapillar.
He found a fluffly milkweed pod,
And blew out all the 'filler.'
A bird's nest in a tree overhead,
So wisely placed up so high.
Was just another wonder,
That caught his eager eye.
A neighbor watched his zig zag course,
And hailed him from the lawn;
Asked him where he'd been that day
And what was going on.
'I've been to Bible School,'
He said and turned a piece of sod.
He picked up a wiggly worm replying,
'I've learned a lot about God.'
'M'm very fine way,' the neighbor said,
'for a boy to spend his time.'
'If you'll tell me where God is,
I'll give give a brand new dime.'
Quick as a flash the answer came!
Nor were his accents faint.
'I'll give you a dollar, Mister,
If you can tell me where God ain't.'
